Thanks Mike, I am aware that Amir is from Chicago ( I was one of the judges when he won the Caruso competition) but his family is Iraqi which is, I believe, one of the reasons he chose to study there and absorb the music that he is now adapting into a fresh new language of his own. At one point in the gig I was certain that Don Cherry's spirit had entered the room as Amir and Rudresh went off on an amazing conversation journey...I have to say it inspired our gig tonight and yay,we had a full room of great listeners at the Stone, a VERY cool listening room in the east village.
