Also: Bud Herseth, one of the greatest orchestral players, had a horrific accident early on during his career and retired after 50 (right?) years as principal trumpet in Chicago. Rafael Mendez also suffered a terrible blow to the mouth that did serious damage to his lip and teeth. Great, great player, and he continued playing long after that incident. So, you're in some good company there.
