| Oh boy, here we go... Ok...I think I'm gonna do it...I'm gonna...gulp...retire the Studio...
What's worse, I intend to replace it with a newer horn. Provided my car doesn't go belly up like it did the last time I thought about this, the funds will be available. However, I hate looking for new horns, and I can't stand actually plunking down the cash for them, either. I'm always afraid that I'll love the horn the day I buy it, then hate it the rest of the time. Anyway, I need a pretty versatile horn. It needs to do my symphonic band as a first priority, and possibly some jazz stuff as a second priority (not necessarily lead). Here's what we're looking at thus far:
Schilke
S22
S32
B1
B3
X3
Kanstul
ZKT1600
ZKT1504
ZKT1503
CHI1001
Yamaha
8335LA
8345RGS
6345GS
Stage One
Vintage
Bach
Strad, if I can find one for the money that plays well
And for the "Not a snowball's chance in heck, but still would be nice" category
Wild Thing
Stage One Cali or Classic
Eclipse
and the Obligatory Monette
See why I hate this? I have roughly 15 trumpets that I'm thinking about seriously. This poses a dramatic problem, as I'd like to try as many as possible. However, the only decent trumpet store I can think of anywhere near here is Brass With Class down in Houston, and that's just Stage One. Horn Haven in Dallas might have some of the Kanstuls (if they're still in business). No telling where I'll find a Schilke at.
Any suggestions? Oh, and if you have any experience with these horns, feel free to comment on them.
