Rowuk is right on the money! I humbly think of myself as a less than mediocre amateur--and a player that will never have the technical skills of many/most TM members. That said, I also want to get better and better every time I play. (I am actually now doing soft slurred arpeggios EVERY time I pick up my horn--even if I don't do anything else.) Right or wrong, getting a new horn lights a fire under me to get better and better. It may be the wrong reason, but it doesn't make the effect any less valid FOR ME. Get you Phaeton, or whatevr new horn you want, and I bet you will want to rise above mediocrity--I know I do.
