I'm not a pro or anything, but i'll throw my 2 cents in. I think we have equipement for a reason. you're not gonna want to play on a heavyweight horn for lead stuff, you'll never get the right sound, same goes for mouthpieces. I'd actually suggest moving to a smaller rim. If you find you bottom out on a mouthpiece, it's not the rim that's the problem, but the cup. Easiest bet is to take a weekend and go to one of the mouthpiece maker's shop, and spend a weekend trying them out. in the end, if you sound good, and can get around on the horn, that's the one for you, doesn't matter the maker, or size. |
