Re: Jordan Hirsch gig in Brooklyn (Shameless Promotion)

I made it down to Barbes tonight to catch Jordan and his band The Kleztraphobix, and boy I'm glad I did! The band plays Klezmer music, but with a decidedly modern touch, and has great energy and musicianship.

The lineup of trumpet, clarinet, tuba, accordian and drums gives them the ability to play the standards, but they are all good enough improvisers to liven it up quite a bit.

Jordan has a beautiful, ringing tone, and great command of the horn. Some of the unison lines he had to execute with the clarinetist were fast and tough, and he navigated them with ease.

He is also a fine band leader, and was quite funny and charming with his intros of the tunes.

Great band and great show! Catch them if you can.
