No, I don't think the sun will hurt the foam. You don't need to leave it out too long. The moisture will hurt the foam much worse than the sun would for those short periods.

I haven't tried it yet, but I' m thinking those silica(sp?) packets used for photo equipment might work for the moisture problem.
