| Re: EuroEC TMers,
I'm back from Italy, Spain and Switzerland and filled to the gills with everything except sleep.
My classes in Novara were very interesting (a terrific bunch of trumpeters there, including a recent prize winner) and if offered the chance to spend the rest of my life in Bergamo I'd reply with a smile and a "yes, please" (in addition to the medieval architecture I'll long remember a free improv that we crafted from the stage and rear balcony at the Donizetti Conservatory. He might have hated it. I loved it, and only wish we had done it outside around the Piazza Vecchia as the sun was setting). My classes in Zaragosa were hosted by a fine organization called "Asociacion de trompetistas profesionales" and a breeze as events created by colleagues, not administrators, often are. Bilbao perfectly reflects the committment of the Basque government to modern art. I also spent two intense days in Lausanne with Jean-Pierre Mathez, visiting Julien-François Zbinden (now 90 and sharp as a tack in spite of losing 98% of his voice) and Editions BIM.
My only disappointment, other than paying $15 for a gin and tonic on the terrace at the Gritti Palace in Venice (the view of the Grand Canal was almost worth it) was arriving home at Newark and Boston's infamous Logan and feeling, once again, that I was entering a third world country. Yikes.
Best, as always, and glad to be back
