- First position, slide all the way in.
- Third position, fingers touching rim of bell.
- Second positition, slide in-between first and thrid.
- Fourth-Seventh position, between third position and end of the slide.
This method helps a great deal in sightreading, because accidentals are "felt" rather than "read" by trombonists.
