Re: slide trumpet

Jupiter makes an inexpensive one, the 314L "Mini Trombone," Thein and Courtois et al more expensive ones. You can find them generally listed as "Soprano Trombones." The short distance the slide travels allows less slop than a normal Eb Alto or Bb Tenor trombone, and most trombonists play the really high stuff on their Eb's.

There isn't a huge market for trumpet players on these instruments.

The tromba da tirarsi and English slide trumpets are historical instruments, and there isn't a huge market for these, either, compared to that of the natural trumpet.

The soprano trombones are fun to mess around on, but with no valve caps and such are hard to "pimp." If you can find such an instrument cheap, it might be worth it for the "look Ma, no valves!" novelty.
Have fun!
