| Wooden Mutes Hey guys I thought I would pass this along. I’m a trumpet player but enjoy woodworking in my spare time. Well, I’ve finally found a way to join the two, by making wooden mutes. I was set to the task of making myself one about 4 years ago. At first I attempted to buy one prepaid but I could only find one or two companies that made them and they didn’t sound very good, also they were VERY expensive, most were $100, which is crazy. So I designed and built one myself, and was pretty pleased with the outcome. After building that first mute from red oak, I thought that it would be interesting to build them out of different types of wood. This motivation was for purely visual purposes only. However, I found that by using different types of wood, the sound changed and took on different characteristics and allowed me to pick and chose form a range of colors. Now, at the advice of my friends I have made these mutes available to the public. Feel free to visit my website and check them out. Each mute is handmade and guaranteed for life. The site is pretty new right now, but I’m going to try to get pictures of all mutes in each wood species up as well as put up some sound files so you can hear what they sound like. Feel free to email me and let me know what you think!! If any one reading this owns one of my mutes, feel free to post and let us know what you think! BH |
