Hi All,
I am very happy to be here. I have been lurking around for a bit. I live in Northern California and am a member of a team that provides Military Honors at Veterans Funerals. We are a great group of veterans who volunteer our time to this task. None of us are getting any younger and we sometimes have trouble getting buglers to sound TAPS at the funerals. Our group has provided about 400 services in our county so far. We have not had to use "canned" music yet but because we are a volunteer group of aging folk I just figured I would see if I could play the trumpet and learn the bugle calls for my team.
What we do is render a 3 volley salute with typically 7 riflepeople (we have had as few as 5 at times), then the sounding of TAPS and the folding and presentation of the American flag to the next of kin. We fire 1903 Springfield rifles that have all been preserved in fine condition.
Anyway, I bid on a trumpet on E Bay to just try it out and see if I could even get ANY sound out. I paid $52 for an old Beuscher Winston trumpet and much to my surprise I actually made noise. My first attempts were not that great.
It sounded like a "Dying Duck" hense the DD in my user name.
As we go along here if anyone can come up with a better user name for me I will take under advisement any suggestions given. You all seem like great folks. I have already learned so much from this site. Again I am very glad to be in your fine company.
Karen
