When I was working on transcribing a solo from my brief trumpet studies with John McNeil, he gave me some wisdom. If you cannot get a couple of measures and feel stuck, you can always go back and fill it in later. That way you feel like you are moving ahead and forward if you can fill in some other parts of the solo or crossword puzzle. You will eventually find the missing links or pieces to complete it. |
