As the LSO points out, Maurice truly is a legendary figure.

I'm disappointed by the way people are constantly being compared in contemporary society (is LeBron as good as Michael was at the same point in his career?, etc.) but I've always felt that Maurice had few, if any, peers as an orchestral trumpeter. . . a Hersethlike presence onstage (there, I did it too. Bad EC).

It takes years to develop that presence and I'm sure that he will be sorely missed by audience and colleagues alike. Young conductors, however, are probably breathing a sigh of relief!
