The G signifies the material that the bell is made of (gold instead of yellow brass). I think the leadpipe has more to do with the Bach intonation problems than the bell. Sound used to be more important than intonation until Yamaha and others proved that you could have it all!
The beauty of working with an artisan like Melk, Harrelson or a number of others, is that they can fix the problem. If he says that it will be OK, it will be!
