Re: What is the best classical trumpet out there?

European orchestra or American? (or someplace else?)
C or Bb?
Soloist or orchestra or smaller ensemble?
Do you know what others play (if it's for section playing)?

I recently tried Lawler (T), Kanstul (1600, 1503, 1500B, 1500BB), Hub van Laar (B4), and Yamaha (8335LA, 9335NYS) extensively--and stayed with a fifteen year old Bach 37 that for me has a finer sound than any of them. For orchestral playing, if a Bb is appropriate, this 37 with a 1-1/2 C/26 throat is exactly the right tool for the way I like to do the job.

The only thing I know for sure is that price is no indicator of what will work best for you. It's very, very possible to spend $3K or better and not like what you get at all, and it's very, very possible to spend under $2K and find something you won't part with.
