| Re: Specail for TM friends My valve alignments are a little different than the others. For one I am stamping my own felts using a synthetic/ neoprene/ woven fabric felt. I am using several layers of felt of different thickness and hardness for each horn. This way the valve is not clunky or squishy. I am also doing a little adjustment on the actual valve ports themselves. It is one thing to align a valve vertically (up and down stroke) and not deal with the side to side rotation of the piston as it moves. For this I cut from the ports that are undercut to fit each port. In some more severe cases, I will unsolder the spring barrel from the piston and reseat it for proper rotational alignment. I also do not use any felt in the actual top cap, but rather the finger button. I have found that this greatly helps with the response of the horn.
For those of you who may want to send horns for just an alignment the turn around time is 1 day from receiving to shipping back to you.
Prices are generally the following, but I will give all TM members a discount on all work:
Trumpet: Bb, C, D, E/Eb, 3 valve pic $150
Piccolo: 4 valve $170
Flugel: $165
In some cases of vintage horns may have additional cost due to stem replacement.
As always if any of you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate.
Hope this helps.
Josh
By the way any horn can be aligned. I did a friends horn today that was rescued from an instrument graveyard a few years back that had 3 different pistons from 3 different horns all of which were different lengths and it came out perfect!! |
