Well, FOR ME, the Thein (the model that Hofs plays) was more freeblowing in all regards and had more of a "big horn" sound, whereas the Blackburn long model Bb/A gave me the feeling that I "had something to push against", which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You also need to take into consideration what pitch you want the piccolo to be at, based on what type of literature you intend to play on it (though you can't get much more versatile than the Thein Bb/A/G), as this could be a limiting factor in your decision. At this point you are deciding between a Bentley and Rolls Royce.
