Re: What is your main horn?

Bach 37 in silver, serial 385xxx (1989). Bought it from a guy in concert band three years ago. Knew it was mine the moment I played it. Valve alignment and the third valve slide vented by Jim Becker at Osmun soon after buying it.

Several years ago, as a comeback player going through the more-money-than-chops phase, I tried out a lot of trumpets, but after getting the Bach, the only other one I've kept is the Kanstul Besson Brevete that Tom Williams played on the Heath Brothers' Jazz Family. He had stripped that horn down to raw brass, taken off the spit valves, moved a brace, and put on a different finger hook. Since buying it, I've had the valves replated and aligned, the third valve slide vented, and installed a spit valve on the tuning slide. I think all those changes must reduce the resale value -- and I bought it for short money -- but when it plays and sounds great, who cares?
