Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major

Umm, serious rhythm issues
Umm, serious breathing issues
Umm, serious musical issues

Don't get me wrong, TM is not reserved only for the finest players and performances, but if you ask for a comment, you will get an honest one. Publishing something long before it is ready is not good.

What would I do differently?
1) practice with a metronome - this does not kill musicality, it helps us build a natural pulse. That pulse would serve this work especially well. The steady 8th notes in the accompaniment are significant. Your quarters, 8ths and 16ths are very erratic. The natural pulse in a 4/4 bar is on 1 and 3 - almost NEVER on pickup notes.
2) study baroque embellishment, there is generally accepted practice (on the beat - not before, for instance)
3) Follow the ink. Believe me, Telemann knew what he was doing
4) I would more positively tongue. la-la-la doesn't have much to do with baroque trumpet music. We are talking about the king of musical instruments here!
5) The long notes that you shorten sound like you are running out of air, to perform this piece, your breath support needs to be in order. Hold those long notes out. A quick breath is allowed. The tone always has to sound supported.
6) I teach never to present ones playing with an apology. "I don't have a pic so I had to play on a Bb". You didn't HAVE to play it. You WANTED to play it. A better presentation would have been: I don't have a pic so I played it on a Bb. There is a big difference.

There is nothing wrong with practicing things like this - in any playable key. My students have to work pieces out before making them public.

Yes, this is a tough critique. Your performance was not prepared. Only YOU can change that. You have some chops, range is not a problem, the high notes came out clearly. There is much more to music than just hitting all the notes.
