| Re: "Chicago" I sub on the B'way show. Both parts call for straight, cup, plunger, Solo Tone and Harmon with stem. There's only one tune played Harmon with stem removed (it's in Act I), and plenty of time to make the change.
And flugel - both parts.
Lots of big solos in the 1st trumpet book (1st 4 bars of the show is all 1st trumpet by yourself), and a few in the 2nd book. I have yet to figure out what a "Stravinsky growl" is, tho!
It's a terrific show and lots of fun to play. Sitting next to John Frosk is like getting a lesson on how to play every single note in the show. I feel guilty for not writing him a check for the lesson....not guilty enough to actually write that check, but guilty nonetheless.
Darryl Shaw is equally as fine a player, too. The B'way show is coming up on 11 years of performances with no signs of slowing down.
Be glad you're not a trombone player - there is a 2-bar vamp on "Roxie" that goes on and on and on....and they have to play it, while you get a nice break!
