| Re: Playing fast... playing fast passages?
1 - what Mendez says
2 - check out "the art of jazz trumpet" vol 2 by John McNeil. this is an excellent book full of articulation studies which facilitate playing fast passages. the basic concept is tongue-slur-tongue-slur, although there are many other types of articulation which help with intervals. This approach also helps with timing and swing emphasis. listen to any good player and take notice of the articulations used in executing their phrases.
3. - learn short licks fairly slow and speed them up until they can be executed accurately at speed. start joining thme together.
4. it takes time and practice - no short cuts.
