BergeronWannabe - When I am playing I'm first & foremost listening, and certainly also paying attention to the changes. I always tell players to start simple: roots and thirds, add fifths and sevenths. If you can do that (IN TIME) on every chord change, you'll be well on your way to getting the song in your ears. At that point, you can start improvising. In the begining, less is more. Don't try to do too much at once.
