I have seen some trumpet players who can build solos with a better melodic line and thought while playing with with better articulations. James is surely a good jazz trumpeter, but all this big heart and humility stuff sounds overrated to me. I heard for a first time his playing on the video, whose link you provided, so I am giving my opinion based only on that video clip.
