As someone has said the best protection is a hard case. I have had gigbags for years and had no trouble, BUT I keep the bag with me and I handle it myself. Air travel or on a tour I really suggest something with more protection. However, I found the best gig bags out there (but a little expensive) are the Glen Cronkhite bags.
