One thing that helps a bunch on velocity, but is as not as interesting as watching a violist tune ("do I it turn the peg right or left if I'm sharp?") are the studies for the trill. The half-step trills are pretty easy, but the whole step trills, played cleanly, can benefit many aspects of our playing.
