As a former alumni I have to add that for trumpet players McGill offers the best of everything. In addition to a tremendous brass program you have the flexibility of participating in the Jazz program either full time or playing in the ensembles. When I was there 87-92 I was enrolled in the Jazz program but participated in brass ensembles, symphonic band and orchestra, vice versa a certain Jens Lindemann was involved with the jazz band and some combos. His final recital featured a concerto , sonata etc... but he finished with a wicked Harry James tribute and closed with My Funny Valentine accompanied with jazz singer Denzal Sinclaire! Being a trumpet player means also finding gigs so the interaction between departments is great! Lots of opportunities and sharing of ideas. Finally on top of being one of the best music programs tuition is cheap!!! and cost of living also! So enroll, Montreal is a great city!!!
