The springs do not need to be "stiffer". Newer springs are more resilient. Fast can be achieved by thinner spring wire with higher tension. The high tension makes it fast and the thin keeps the pressure needed down.
If valves hang during a concert, you can help yourself by "stretching" the springs. That will not solve the problem, but give you temporary relief.
