| Re: who to start listening to... Hey everyone! thanks for all of the great input on this.Keep it coming! I'm following along and find this question to be a pretty interesting one.
My early days were filled with good 'background' jazz and there was never one moment that I can clearly pinpoint as to when I really 'got into' jazz. More like it got into me. My point being that we are all so different in our evolution and development as listeners and players and it's really hard to know which player or album will be 'the one'.
As I was listening to Louis, I was also into Ska music, Chet Baker, Spyro Gyra, heavy metal and many other sounds and styles that spoke to me at the time. At the same time I was glued to the CBC jazz shows that were on the radio late at night, often sneaking my radio back on after my parents went to bed and listening for hours to an incredible variety of jazz styles.
I suggest finding some good radio stations and also downloading some of the NPR Jazz profiles podcasts. Like any good relationship, the more you get to know the person, or persons-the more you can appreciate them.
Speaking of appreciate- gotta get my chops back together here for another 8 sets of music with Maria this weekend!
Happy day after Turkey gorging!
