| Re: Audition Piece Ok, fine, I'll rant then. I probably have not the total experience on auditioning that these other guys have. However, for as young as I am, I have been on a panel quite a few times. I would like to totally agree with Rowuk and the others. There are too many young folks trying to play techincal music with no musicality! I do NOT want to sit there for 10 minutes (or however long) and listen to someone trying to hack through mutiple tounguing, range, or extremely rapid sequenced licks to impress me. Instead, I would LOVE for someone to sit down, play something where they can show us what they know and how they interpret that knowledge. Getting through something hard because it's hard is a waste of everyone's time, including your own practice time! Yes, everyone wants to play Carnival or Brandenberg or whatever. Unless you have your own interpretation, do something else. If I want to hear Wynton's arrangement... I'll go listen to Wynton.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that anyone can play Mary Had A Little Lamb, but not everyone can play it well (MUSICALLY)!
Not to say you shouldn't challenge yourself. Just be smart about it.
My two cents, keep the change.
