Thanks guys. Though I will definitely look into jef's concerto I am quite anchored in the jolivet/schostakovitch....actually I may have to perform both on the concert... I know that this would be rather tough, but that is what the conductor wants for the moment. I don't like the Saint-Saens septet either, and seems to be quite inappropriate as the program will include mainly modern/contemporary music, which can fit nicely with some baroque pieces, but SS seems just way out of line.
