*I apologize for the ignorance of this question. I'm sure this sort of thing gets asked frequently.*

One of my piano students wants to take up trumpet. I'm mostly a sax player so I know very little about trumpets and trumpet brands. Offhand I would recommend a yamaha, king, or bach but that's only based on what I've seen and heard...not really firsthand experience. What would you recommend for a beginning trumpet student (he's 11)?

On a side note, I told him to pick up a trumpet mouthpiece to get used to buzzing to make the transition into trumpet a little easier for him. What mouthpiece would you recommend? Is this a good idea?
