My first piccolo was a Getzen. I was a senior in high school (1974), went to Giardenelli's in NYC with my older brother and tried them out. My private teacher was not too happy when I brought it back to my next lesson! He was a Selmer Paris pic guy. By the time I was a senior in college, I played principal trumpet in Bach's b minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat, and Handel's Messiah. With the Blackburn A pipe, it was wonderful. I now play on a Schilke P5-4 and a Schertzer rotary, but the Getzen served me well.
