Joe DiMonte is on a distinguished road
Chuck Mangione, 1972 Quartet

For those of you who only know Chuck as a POP artist, let it be known that
Chuck led a serious BEBOP Quartet during the early '70s,especially when he was a fixture at 'The Bottom Line Cabaret',NYC that featured Gerry Niewood,Joel DiBartolo and Ron Davis (Ron was later replaced by Steve Gadd)
and his band was 'tight' and rivals most bands that pre-dated his band.

The last time I checked, the 'Mercury' vinly (SRM 1 631) recording of the Quartet is out of print and I'm yet to see, hear or find a CD to replace my
vinyl and I consider this recording an essential.

By the way,Chuck's take of Mr.Hubbard's "Little Sunflower" on the flugelhorn must have left the man from Indianaopolis with a smile on his face,as he (Freddie) did after playing it with Milt Jackson.

Long Live Bop.
