I disagree, you don't destroy the playing characteristics, you get different characteristics. If what you say is true, so many orchestral players wouldn't be using mouthpieces with 24 backbores, only standard on A cups. Nor would Michael Sachs be playing a 1.5C with a 117 backbore, etc.
The Warburton line would not be so popular, with their interchangeable backbores, and Kanstul wouldn't have a market for their threaded copies of Bach backbores.
