| Re: Pakhmutova trumpet concerto Martin Berinbaum recommended this and that it was underperformed. This was back in 1974 in a promotional flier. I sought it out and finally got around to playing it on a graduate recital. I loved working on it. Energetic. Lyrical. Emotional melodies.
It is a difficult "ensemble" piece (I used the piano reduction) in that I had to be so familiar with her part in order to feel comfortable on my part.
There are a couple of good recordings on CD out.
Bibi Black and an older recording by Sergei Popov.
Somewhat different approach by each but enjoyable none the less.
I think it is being performed today than back then.
About time!
