| Re: Hardenberg/Turnage Video Charlie,
VERY subjective, but the following pieces are composed as complex and wonderful "compositional soundscapes", not merely vehicles to show off technique (modern trumpet concerti or similar moments only. The Haydn is obviously on our radar as well):
Karlheinz Stockhausen: excerpts from his operas (the late Beethoven's of our repertoire, in my opinion.
Michael Blake Watkins: Trumpet Concerto
Peter Maxwell Davies: Trumpet Concerto
H.K. Gruber: Ariel
Marc-Anthony Turnage: Dispelling the Fears and From the Wreckage
Sir Harrison Birtwistle: Endless Parade
Peter Eötvös: Jet Stream
Jukka Linkola: Concerto for Trumpet and Trumpet Concerto No. 2
Rodion Shchedrin: Trumpet Concerto
Hans Werner Henze: Requiem
Bernd Alois Zimmermann: Nobody knows de trouble I see
Jaan Rääts: Concerto for trumpet, piano, and strings
Morton Subotnick: After the Butterfly
I'm building a webpage at the moment that will include a section called "extreme repertoire". These pieces, and others will be listed, along with a few worthless EC comments. Stay tuned.
Aloha,
