Thumbs up A lurker emerges

hello to the trumpetmaster.com forum readers:

i am Toshi. (i know very well how to capitalize properly, but i choose not to.) i registered here a while back but have not posted as of yet.

i live and play in the Seattle area, on two beautiful raw brass Monettes in B flat and C. i had a non-Monette rotary picc back in the day, too, but sold it for lack of regular use along with lack of sane intonation characteristics.

groups i currently play in include the Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra, a young community orchestra largely made up of UW Medicine, Amazon.com, and Microsoft types, and the Black Diamond Brass Quintet. they can be ogled at Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra and Black Diamond Brass, respectively.

i do not make my living playing trumpet, having chosen medicine instead. i'll be an MD barring unforeseen circumstances in June 2008. yes, i will be unleashed upon the world all too soon. until March 20 of this year i have no idea where i'll be continuing my training as a resident, but i hope (and have applied as such) for it to be in diagnostic radiology.

sharp-eyed readers may remember me from the pre-yahoo group days of the TPIN mailing list (hello to michael anderson and "Dr. Trumpet", al lilly), or may have seen me playing in the washington or boston areas in the past. the truly sharp-eyed and sharp-of-memory will recall that my Monette C was actually stolen around June 2005. it was subsequently recovered, thank god, and is still in my paws getting played regularly.

finally, here's a macro shot of an old Monette C2 STC-3 mouthpiece back from the days when they had grooves in the cup. i've stayed with Monette 2-sized pieces since 1998 but have migrated over the years to Prana and now Prana GS3 sub-models.
