| Hello from South Georgia Hello, everyone. My name is Bill Schmid.
I am at Georgia Southern University, where I teach trumpet and jazz studies. Before I arrived in Georgia in 1986, I taught trumpet and jazz at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia (Canada). I currently play professionally in the Savannah and Hilton Head Island region.
I earned a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas, where I had also received a masters degree in music education (emphasis in jazz pedagogy). My primary trumpet teacher there was Leonard Candelaria, although I studied with John Haynie in the summers. I also took lessons for a few years from the great Don Jacoby. While I was in graduate school, I played professionally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Prior to this time, I earned my bachelors degree in music education from the University of Dayton.
My father - also a trumpet player - is the one who started me on this life-long trumpet adventure with the Instrument of Kings!
I look forward to spending time here with fellow trumpet fanatics. |
