You need to talk to the Dean of Students or the Department Head. The professor is following a list of requirements. The list needs to be waivered for you.

I would suggest you start having taps seminars for high school students. Put together a half day or full day seminar where you teach them a warm up, how to stand, where to stand and how to play taps correctly. You should emphasize that taps has straight eighth notes in the middle. Play the taps recording from the Army site or Arlington National Cemetary site. Those two sites play taps correctly. Work them hard for a few hours playing together and as soloists.
