Would this refer to a pucker or blown out center of the chops? The reference to the development of "a roll" is made a couple of times at least during the movie so it must reflect a hipster trumpeter of the day's language in describing a certain kind of embouchure ..... I think.

Had they cast Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong or a CLARK TERRY in that flick one would learn more about trumpet playing than acting as a trumpet player.
Then again,style always trumps substance to whose who live/reside in a "Land Of Make Believe."
