I was blessed to hear Roger Voisin in Philadelphia when I was a high school student. The BSO was playing "Ein Heldenleben." On that ascending dotted half-note passage ending on a high C, he made a crescendo that to this day I remember. It shook the walls of the Academy of Music.

I didn't know that he was also a bass player, my teacher, Sigmund Hering was also a fine bassist.

Roger Voisin wrote the first orchestral excerpts book I owned. It is impossible to find these days. The book was hand written as I recall. M. Baron was the publisher.
