You don't really have to think about it. You can't bend your note so much that it won't know what note you are playing, on accident. Just center the pitch and you'll be fine. You will notice that it is in fact a step lower than the letter note you are playing. On some tuners, you can calibrate the tuning note -- you are not stuck with 440 mHZ.
