Re: Best Flugelhorn

I played on an 80's Getzen Capri for 17 years before I found something better - my Rembrandt. If I hadn't bought the Rembrandt, I would've bought a Conn Vintage One. I played it side by side with the Kanstal, and liked the Conn much better. I'm one of those people who prefer a large bore flugel, but I still liked the Conn - unusual for me. As for the worst flugel I've played recently, it's the Yamaha Bobby Shew. It feels like a cheap plastic trumpet to me when I play it - especially after the Rembrandt! I much prefer the older Yamaha flugels to the newer ones. I occasionally play one of the Navy's Yamaha flugels instead of my own, but they all feel incredibly stuffy and out of tune compared to what I'm used to! I guess that's the difference in spending a couple of thousand more for a custom horn.........
