bigtiny | Bigtiny -- Interesting observations. According to Joe Lill's Benge site, Chicago 3rd-valve slide rings could be top or bottom mounted; unfortunately, Joe offers no photos illustrating the assembly differences. It's well known that Benge used nickel valves -- switching to monel in the mid '70s [post-15000 or so] a few years into the Anaheim period when they really started to ramp up production. Smokes says he doesn't know the horn's history -- suggesting two things: (1) he cannot guaranteed the horn to be "all original"; (2) he bought it at an estate sale for $150. Echoing TrentAustin words, buyer beware; or, as we used to say in the old country, caveat emptor. -James
