Yeah, I've always loved Bill Evans, but have only really listened to him because he was playing on something else I was listening to at the time. Now, I'm definately going to seek his stuff out. His unique voicing is definately inspiring, and I can see where Miles got his influence for "Kind of Blue". Never really thought about it too much, but you know Miles was trying to steer away from the complicated Bebop that was going on at the time (and that's a fact), and I think found his simplicity in Bill Evans. It's cool how you can take the same changes over these tunes and go all "reeky deeky" on them (is that how you say it?) very easily, but then you can go to the far end like Miles and Evans and it sounds so much better to my ear. I mean, I know Evans didn't play on "Freddie Freeloader", and Wynton Kelly almost does go "reeky deeky" on that tune. But Miles is still out there man, even over those blues changes. I'm working on steering clear of thirds, tonics, and fifths, but it's not easy to do as well as they do (Davis and Evans).
