If I go with a used strad, are there years to avoid. I would like to make asure the union boys had there hands on it.

I think I am out of my price range slightly for a new one. I saw a Flip Oakes Wild Thing on horn trader for $1800. I wouldn't have the opportunity to test drive it though due to location. It's friggin raw brass.
