| Re: Valve Rebuild Needed? A few comments. I use Hetman Valve Oil. It comes in 3 grades. Light, regular and classic (for old horns). I am very happy with it for all applications.
If you like the 6B and the rest of the horn is in nice shape and it gets played a bunch, then a valve job is definitely a good and worthwhile option.
Just about every repair tech sends the horn off to Anderson's for valve replate and refit. Some then do precision valve alignment when the horn is returned and then send it back to you. In the past, I have been able to deal direct with Anderson when I have not wanted or need the alignment done. They do charge a different rate when they are dealing with the individual owner than when they are dealing with a repair tech or facility.
I'm right on the edge of having my '46 Committee done... It plays great, but I know the velves leak a bit and wonder how much I'd gain by having them done... but it plays great, and I don't like messing with it. |
