Re: Anyone played a Rotary Valve Flugel?

The bores on flugelhorns vary greatly--the Getzen Eterna, for example, has a .460 bore. The German flugelhorns generally take a trumpet shank, and in the wind bands their role is like the cornet--lots of fingerwork, and it is very common for players to use their trumpet mouthpieces on them. The Alexander four valved flugelhorn is played by Jimmy Owens, and Charles Lewis in his Empire Brass days played one too. The German flugels are fun to play, but I prefer the sound of the bigger bell on piston models.

Hope this helps!
