Re: Anyone played a Rotary Valve Flugel?

I have both types. An east German predecessor to the B&S pro rotary (not so large of a bore, but bore size is not significant except as a marketing specification anyway) and a Getzen Eterna 4 valve with a big bell. They are two completely different animals. For jazz, the Getzen wins hands down: silky, sexy, smooth - great section sound. For wind band stuff, the rotary seems way more "precise" and "articulate". Like VB said, it is used instead of the cornet in germanic and Dutch wind band music so there is a lot of fast notes that it handles well. The two types do not blend well together. Duets are not really comfortable.
